Magnesium and sleep
The forms are not the same
Bisglycinate is magnesium bound to glycine. It is well tolerated by the stomach and is the form usually chosen for evening use. Citrate has a stronger laxative effect. Oxide is cheap and poorly absorbed.
Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to the reduction of tiredness.
What to expect
If your daily intake is below the recommendation, closing that gap makes sense. If it is already adequate, adding more magnesium does not make sleep better.
Sleep hygiene comes first
- The same schedule every night
- A dark, cool room
- No caffeine after 2 pm
No supplement replaces that list.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
